Beverages

There are some possibilities to acquire coffee or other drinks at or near our institute. The coffee kitchens at the institute are managed by the respective groups. Since the mode of acquisition and distribution of beverages differs mainly by building this page is organized this way.

S2|04

The coffee kitty for the building S2|04 is managed by Philipp Ritzert . Drinks can be found in the coffee kitchen on the ground floor or in the social room on the third floor. When you take a drink tally it on the list hanging in the respective room. If you want cold drinks look in the fridges. If there are none place some inside. If there are none left in the room refill from the central storage 'copy room' opposite to offices 303/304. Don't forget to return your empty bottles and tally that as well. Tally your coffee in the same manner and regularly Pay your bills!

Coffee machines

Jura D6

The coffee machine in the social room on the third floor is a Jura D6. It's manual can be found here as well as in the social room in a drawer. The most important rules for the coffee machine are:

  1. Always place a mug under the machine, even when it's not in use.
  2. Concerning coffee beans:It's every coffee drinker's duty to provide sufficient coffee. If you see that the amount of coffee draws to a close just buy esspresso beans ($\leq12\frac{\mbox{€}}{\mbox{kg}}$) and place the expense on the coffee list.
  3. Keep the machine clean, in every sense. Rinse the tray when it has to be emptied and check for any coffee residuals in the bottom of the machine. The residuals can be removed carefully using a little brush.
  4. The funnnel in the middle of the machine is for a cleaning tablet only. It is not ment for coffee grounds even if the beans are empty.
  5. Before and (if you are in the institute) during the holidays, check that the machine is clean and the tray is emptied. Otherwise we have an unwanted surprise when we return to work.
  6. Pay your bills!
Descaling

This is the descaling procedure as taken from the Jura manual cleaned up for unnecesary corporate disclaimers. After some time the machine will call for descaling and someone should heed that call. You need a descaling solution which can be either prepared by dissolving three Jura descaling tablets or citric acid in the right amount in 0.5 l of cold tap water. (Whatever the right amount is. Go this way on your own risk! And if you find out the right amount remove this passage and add your result!) Be careful this soultion is acidic. Now you perform the following steps

  1. Touch the cleaning icon beneath the choice wheel for 2 seconds until the display changes to empty tray
  2. Empty the tray and reinsert it.
  3. Take out and empty the water tank and refill it with the descaling solution.
  4. place a big cup under the steam outlet
  5. turn the right knob, the machines will start pumping through the solution
  6. when it's done it asks you to close the knob so you do this
  7. it's done when it ask you to empty the tray. So you do.
  8. Then it want's fresh water. So empty out the rest of the descaling solution and fill the tank with cold tap water.
  9. The machine will now run a purge program that removes the descaling liquid. It's the same as the descaling program so simply repeat these steps.
  10. Follow the instructions on the machine and you are done

S2|07

The social room is in S2|06 room 21 (?). There is a Jura cofffe machine there. There is no list, coffee beans are supposed to be always there, everybody has to bring the beans:

  1. Use the fitlered water from the extra tap (power switch to make the pump go brrr)
  2. “Wer Kaffee trinkt, der Kaffe brinkt”.
  3. switch it back to normal coffee after drawing an Espresso
  4. if the machine blinks after you got the coffe: fix it! (water, tray, grounds container)
  5. put the mug in the dish washer, empty the dish washer if necessary
